All About Hurt and Far

"Hurt and Far" is a beautiful, sad song about death and loneliness, among other things. The piece features a harmonica choir, which makes about as pretty a sound as I can dream up.

I've been writing lyrics for years, but I haven't published or recorded anything with lyrics for a long time. The lyrics for this song do a lot to define its meaning, in a musical as well as a literal sense, and I felt it was necessary to record the piece with the lyrics. I'm not much of a singer, so I've provided two versions of this piece: one instrumental, and one in which the lyrics are spoken, not sung. If you think you can sing the hell out of these lyrics, send me an email. In the meantime, this vocal -- my son calls it a "spocal" -- will have to do. And if you don't like the spocal, you can listen to the instrumental version.

I feel obliged to remind everyone that a couple of months ago I released a CD of live jammin' blues recorded with British blues duo Sugar Mama UK. Find out more about "All You Good People" here.
