Video of the Day 20 May 2015: Hermine Deurloo, Zanzibar
I hadn’t heard of Hermine Deurloo before I saw this video. I wish I had. This performance was recorded live in 2014, and it’s a very nice piece of electric jazz, with an unusual ensemble that includes strings, vocals, electric piano and synth, reminiscent of Weather Report. Heurloo plays a chromatic harp on this cut with a sound reminiscent of Toots Thielemans, with a light vibrato and a clear, unamped tone. Great stuff.
