Video of the Day 22 June 2014: Jason Ricci and the Blue Rivieras, “Scratch My Back”
Jason Ricci has been pretty quiet for a little while. It’s great to see him here in fine form, using a big auto-wah sound on this blues classic. There’s been a lot of noise about this video on the Modern Blues Harmonica forum, much of it to the effect that the sound Jason is using here is weird, or buzzy, or tinny, or less-than-blues-worthy in any number of ways. So far as I’m concerned, it just sounds great. Rock on!

I don’t care what they say over at MBH. Those guys are not very modern. Their name is an oxymoron. That Dude is one of the Greatest. I just hope he never stops pushing the limits. We Love you Jason.
The first time I heard this i felt it sounded so “right” – and why wouldn’t he play it again that way if he wanted?
I could say what I really feel about that forum but I think that would neither please nor assist Jason as it is run by one of his friends – so it’s better not saying anything other than I wish Jason well.
I hope he disregards that forum entirely and puts out more albums.
